19 July 2023

LONDON, United Kingdom - July 20th, 2023 Great Place to Work® UK has unveiled its 2023 list of Best Workplaces for Women™. A total of 336 UK-based organisations from a range of industries including housing, financial services, tech, and pharmaceuticals, have earned official recognition for driving an inclusive and equitable workplace culture for women. View the full list here.

Top achievers Home Group Ltd, Elements Talent Consultancy, Sellick Partnership and  ID Comms each took first place in the Super Large, Large, Medium and Small size categories respectively.

The list is produced by the UK branch of Great Place to Work – the global authority on workplace culture. To determine the Best Workplaces for Women™ list, Great Place to Work UK administered their research-backed Trust Index™ employee survey and analysed the responses of nearly 80,000 UK-based female employees, with over 150,000 initially invited to participate. They found that the organisations where women reported a highly positive workplace experience are going above and beyond to ensure fair treatment in terms of pay and benefits, workload stress, and development and promotion opportunities.

The 2023 UK’s Best Workplaces for Women list represents companies whose employees have said they work for a place that is equitable and fair for all. They believe their leaders are committed to ensuring a reasonable balance of women and men across the organisation, and creating sufficient opportunities for female employees to progress in their career as much as their male colleagues.

Three focus areas were identified through the extensive analysis of workplace cultures conducted by Great Place to Work UK:

  • Talent Development & Leadership:  Currently, there are 10% more women occupying leadership positions among the Best Workplaces for Women compared to 2020, with an impressive 63% of women working in the Top 5 awarded companies holding an Executive/C-level position
  • Pay and Benefits: A 2023 UK population study by Great Place to Work UK found that 12% less women feel they are supported by their organisation to plan and manage their finances when compared with men. However, almost double of the women working in the Top 5 Best Workplaces for Women feel their organisation offers them support to manage and plan their financial situation compared to the population.

  • Workload Stress: Recognising the unique needs of managers is essential for alleviating burnout and promoting wellbeing. 91% of women working in the Top 5 awarded companies say they feel supported overall. And compared with 2020, 5% more women feel supported with the resources and equipment to do their job.

Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place to Work UK, says: "It’s vitally important that companies take a holistic approach when attempting to create the optimum work experience for women to thrive in their organisations as this has repeatedly been shown to be better for multiple business outcomes. By creating a culture where women can achieve a strong sense of accomplishment and purpose in the work they do, we are seeing enhanced creativity and innovation, productivity and profitability that inevitably comes with being an equitable, innovative, diverse and supportive workplace for all.

Our hope is that by highlighting the organisations that have prioritised the progress of women at work, other organisations will be inspired to take up action and do the same. Ultimately, creating a better future for women and a more positive employee experience for all."
