What inspires us

We have a Staff Engagement Group, made up of volunteers from each business unit throughout the organisation, who meet monthly to discuss plans to improve the way things work and to give feedback on current and proposed processes and initiatives. 

We run quarterly anonymous staff surveys asking all colleagues for their engagement levels, as well as their general thoughts, ideas, feelings or feedback on anything related to Social. 

We publish an annual report setting out how we have lived up to our commitment to have a material positive impact on society and the environment.

All colleagues are assigned a House Team - a bit like in Harry Potter! The teams take part in fun and games throughout the year to win points and prizes for their team. 

We have a 32% promotion rate for the past financial year, while colleagues clocked up almost 1,200 hours of L&D.

Action highlights


Our various colleague feedback avenues have led to the following policies and processes being implemented in the last year:

  • 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Volunteering policy: All staff are allowed to take the equivalent for 5 working days (35 hours) per calendar year, paid time off to volunteer during work hours at a charity, community group or other not-for-profit of their choice
  • Super flexibility policy: Allowing staff to speak to their line managers about their preferred times and locations of work. As long as they complete the required number of hours and it works for clients, we allow it e.g. some staff members now work the required 35 hours per week in four-day weeks and have every Friday off
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity policies
  • Role responsibility and pay bands structure
  • Menopause, pregnancy loss and supporting breastfeeding mothers policies
