What defines us

BCL staff said “Going to work is like a second home” and “The Company engenders a great sense of 'family'”. Our staff are our greatest asset, so we want to look after them and nurture their creativity. We've invested in sit/stand desks, ergonomic seating and a breakout space, to encourage everyone to move more and to take breaks away from their desks. We encouraged everyone to take home what equipment they needed to create a ‘fit for purpose’ home office; whether that be their computer screens or their chairs. We always take a collaborative approach to running the business and all staff are encouraged to get involved in various committees to help to improve / grow the business. We have 3 committees: Sustainability, Diversity, Social, Fitness & Wellbeing and New Ideas & Innovations Meetings. In return, we are transparent about our business objectives. We have two Strategy Days per year with a number of specific topics covered to engage and empower staff to develop ideas.

What inspires us

One thing we’re great at is socialising and celebrating! It doesn’t take much for us to arrange some drinks to let our hair down and celebrate our successes. We have quarterly dinners for all the staff and memorable Christmas Parties and when Barwood Capital was 10 years old, we took everyone to Barcelona for three days to celebrate!  We’re currently planning a post Covid trip, once Boris says we can. Since the Pandemic however, it hasn’t been as easy, so we’ve introduced a more formal way of recognising individual's achievements. In 2020, we introduced The ACR’s (an acronym of our corporate values; Adventurous, Committed Respectful). They’re just like the Oscar’s, only better! Quarterly awards for staff nominated by their peers for outstanding achievements that encompass our values. We’ve always had better than average healthcare but in 2020 we added additional wellbeing benefits to our healthcare cashplan. We also introduced a Corporate Headspace subscription available for all.
