Great Place to Work-Certified™ Organisations

What employees say

“Being a University Graduate, as well as graduating during a Pandemic, I had been written off by every company I had applied for as I did not have enough experience. Burnetts was the only firm to see my potential as they value skills, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Burnetts has an amazing reputation for nurturing local talent and investing in their employees. I know this first hand”

This is a friendly place to work.

I'm proud to tell others I work here.

What defines us

Looking after the stress levels of employees whilst working in the legal sector is important to us so we have Mental Health First Aiders and a range of wellbeing activities to help with this.

COVID-19 has provided time to reflect on what is important, with many employees telling us how much they miss each other.

We listened to their feedback and are launching a new work based social media platform to enable Burnetts’ employees to not only keep up with important business updates and team communications but also get to get to know more about staff across the branches and teams on a personal level, providing a bespoke newsfeed which is relevant to each employee’s interests e.g. fundraising events for our charity of the year, baking recipes, fantasy football, and anything that our employees would like to celebrate and share.

What inspires us

A unique benefit that our employees rave about is being given your Birthday day off work, or if your Birthday falls on a weekend then the closest working day. This allows our employees to celebrate with their loved ones and shows we value their hard work within the team. Another benefit is the team fundraising events for our charity of the year, as chosen by our employees. This year Burnetts’ is completing the “Wainwright Challenge” a series of walks in the Lake District to raise money for the NSPCC. Our employees also choose to fund raise in a variety of different ways such as bake sales.

We celebrate success through our WOW (What’s on weekly) newsletter which is emailed to all employees and kept in the staff break room for everyone to see. Any successes that have been achieved during the week or any other employee news is celebrated here. After the launch of our WorkVivo internal employee communications app we are planning to move this online for easier access.

Action highlights

Burnetts offer a wide range of HR initiatives including Mental Health First Aiders, various clubs and a team budget to spend on social activities.

COVID-19 has provided opportunity for us to reflect on what is important, with many employees telling us how much they miss colleagues outside their own team.

We listened and are launching WorkVivo, our new work based social media platform to enable Burnetts’ employees to not only keep up with important business updates and department comms but also engage with the personal aspect of each other’s lives and personal interests enabling a bespoke newsfeed which is relevant to each employee.

This will be populated with business updates, staff recognition, fundraising events, baking recipes, fantasy football, and anything else that our employees would like to celebrate and share.

On a wellbeing front we will be launching 10 minute lunch time yoga sessions for staff wherever they are working; home or the office.

Word from the top

“I started working at Burnetts during the first national lockdown, and it quickly become evident how much of a fantastic feeling of family there is here. This positive atmosphere of inclusivity is something incredibly unique to Burnetts and is something that became especially necessary during the pandemic, as employees came to rely on each other for moral support and to boost morale. There is a great sense of pride here at Burnetts, both about our standing within the local community and the quality of the work we produce. This, combined with opportunities to grow and develop both inside and outside of work in both a personal and a professional capacity leads employees to value the company and their place within the team. I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.”
