"The focus on continuous learning, teaching and embedding new ways of working is at the heart of what we do. It is what makes Armakuni unique and as an offering it has been developed and honed significantly in the last 12 months. I have seen the value that it can deliver to organisations but, more importantly for me, to the developers we work with. We really are returning creativity and joy to the world of software engineering and delivery and that is something that I expect will keep me here for another three years and beyond." Rob Summers
We have invested significantly in workplace experience, including but not limited to 10% time for learning, annual learning budgets, regular all-hands events to align on vision and purpose (and have fun too). These people focused improvements are combined with improvements to how we design engagements with clients with a focus on ensuring people are working on what they love and have every chance to be successful.
As the business has grown we have invested substantially and continually in a culture based on empowerment, self-determination and autonomy and a belief that our people are both able to and best placed to make decisions and deliver outcomes. This has been essential to ensure people continue to thrive but also that we can support an ever growing number of clients that share a belief in our vision and purpose.
One of the key elements of our success has been the enthusiasm with which our engineers work. They genuinely believe in our purpose to return creativity and joy to the world of software development. This enthusiasm rubs off on our clients in our engagements and leads us to winning more work.
Every 2 weeks we have an Armakuni Day. Over the preceding weeks we all contribute areas of innovation and learning that we'd like to explore further. At the beginning of the day the originators pitch the ideas to the whole company and we self-organise to explore them; at the end of the day we present the results and celebrate (at least a round of applause). This not only gets the whole team together, allows time to explore and learn, but crucially moves utilisation down from 100%, which causes stress and promotes burnout. A really inspiring event!
