About us

We are an established, well-funded and capitalised UK retail bank. We look after savings and we lend money to individuals and to businesses. Our savings business is award winning and our lending operations currently focus on two areas:

  1. Business Finance, through our Commercial Finance and Real Estate Finance Divisions
  2. Consumer Finance, through our Motor Finance and Retail Finance Divisions.

We're proud of our West Midlands roots and today we operate from a number of locations in the UK. In October 2016 we successfully listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.

We like to keep things simple. Our mission is to build the best bank in Britain.

Our values are:

  • Customer focused
  • Performance driven
  • Future orientated
  • Teamwork
  • Ownership
  • Risk aware

Our GSL strategy is based on our values and is helping us to achieve our vision by focusing efforts and resource in the following three important areas:

Grow - build our business through delivering great customer outcomes in both our existing and new markets

Sustain – safeguarding the integrity and sustainability of the Bank for all our customers and stakeholders

Love – make this a great Bank for customers and colleagues

What defines us

Our internal and external identity is linked through our Grow, Sustain and Love strategy and our six core values which permeate all aspects of our organisation and are brought to life through our culture. We have worked hard to ensure that everyone across our Group, and our external partners understand our values and culture and are focused on delivering our mission to provide straightforward, transparent banking.

What inspires us

Our vision is to build the best bank in Britain and this is driven by our Grow, Sustain and Love strategy and our six core values. These underpin our culture and are reinforced by our people initiatives, processes and working practices. It’s this clear and consistent focus on what we are collectively trying to achieve that inspires colleagues to both ‘walk the walk’ and ‘talk the talk’ so that they become true ambassadors for our organisation.

Our ability to have a positive effect on social and community issues is an extension of our customer centric culture. Employees are encouraged to make a positive contribution through a number of community focused schemes, and our Charity Committees empower colleagues from different business areas to drive forward a wide range of successful charitable activities, backed by a pound for pound matching scheme. Last year the Group supported 25 charities through activities run by its Charity Committees, with the enthusiasm of colleagues to help good causes once again generating over £50,000 for good causes in 2018.

Word from the top

Businesses don’t achieve success, people do. So, the quality of the employee experience is absolutely key to our ongoing success story. We work hard to maintain and promote a culture which has colleague and customer centric attitudes at its heart, rewards innovative and inspiring behaviours and sets work expectations around staff being trustworthy, compliant and safe. We also want to have fun and enjoy each other’s company at work.

We believe that by creating an environment in which colleagues clearly understand how they can contribute to the success of our business and are fairly rewarded for their achievements, we generate high staff motivation, as well as attracting new talent to our Group of businesses.
