About us

We are a social enterprise and a charity with a turnover of over £360m and one of the UK’s largest providers of high quality housing and integrated housing, health and social care. We believe that everyone has the right to a home and we’re helping thousands of people find the home that’s right for them whether that’s

 •renting from us,

•buying one of our beautiful new homes,

•or living in one of our integrated health, housing and social care services.

We’ve been around for more than 80 years and are as proud as ever to be a social enterprise and a charity with a commercial approach. It’s this spirit that means last year our turnover was £360 million and all our surplus was re-invested into the things that matter to our customers like repairs, improvements and building more homes.

We’re proud of our past but what keeps us going is what we’re doing right now – making a difference to communities, shaping the future of housing and delivering new approaches to healthcare. We're a Housing Association with a difference -we're on a mission to build homes, independence and aspirations and this is what makes us Home Group.

What employees say

“I’m so proud of our 17th place in the Stonewall top 100 employers. Home Group is the first company I’ve ever worked for that walks the walk when it comes to equality and diversity. I can genuinely be my authentic self here” – David, Performance Leader

“Thanks for continuing to be a company that listens, I continue to be proud to work for Home Group” – Paul, Client Services Manager

“I’m proud to represent an organisation that makes such a profound difference” – Alan, Head of Procurement

“I love my job, it’s part of my identity now and has helped me to become proud in so many ways, I’ve learned to love who I am and came out as bisexual which has led to me reverse mentoring one of our Executive Directors” – Becky, Involvement Advisor

What defines us

Our colleagues tell us that they love working for Home Group because of our social purpose. and we are inspired by our customers. We believe in equality for all and our colleagues actively change lives each and every day.

We celebrate our differences, we welcome diversity and this year we were 17th 'top employer' in the Stonewall Equality Index . We encourage our colleagues to build their own networks, create their own communities and to share their stories, successes and photos through our internal social network, Workplace by Facebook.

We live our values - Accountable, Commercial, Caring and Energised -and these drive our culture, underpinning everything we do.

What inspires us

We offer a wide range of award winning colleague benefits including generous paid holiday, a competitive salary, flexible working options and special leave requirements, so that our colleagues don't miss out on life's special moments. We also offer pension and life assurance cover, access to our 24-hour counselling and advice service, the latest IT technology, discounts in over 800 online shops, a competitive car scheme and colleague saving scheme and enhanced maternity/adoption leave. We give two additional paid days annual leave to colleagues as volunteering days; so they can give a helping hand to those who need it most.

We hold an annual awards ceremony, the Home Star Awards which is an absolute highlight of the Home Group social calendar, where our colleagues get to go glam, let their hair down and really celebrate the amazing achievements of their colleagues.  With over 600 nominations and 300 attendees, it’s the hottest ticket in town, but we also hold a quarterly ‘dream team’ awards, where teams can submit their own success story to be in with the chance of winning funds towards a team celebration of their choice.  ‘Proud’ is one of our favorites words!

Colleagues also have the ability to personalise and send e-cards to one another, alerting managers to how caring, commercial, accountable and energized our colleagues have been and really lived our values as well.

Action highlights

We are always looking to make things better for our colleagues at home group.

Brilliant Conversations - Everyone hates annual appraisals so we have changed our approach. Regular conversations take place informally to catch up, connect, see how things are going and check in on our goals.
Ways of Woking and Agile Working policies - We celebrate our colleague’s differences and understand that people like to work in different ways; that flexibility can help people to be at their best and helps colleagues to achieve more.
Our amazing office spaces - Our quirky Head Office has a brilliant deli, sofas and pods to chill out on or to have an informal meeting and a sun deck for when the weather calls for al fresco eating. Our offices make us all feel ‘at home’.

Supporting Progression and Development - We have made all of our learning super-accessible and encourage colleagues to move within the organisation. We advertise all permanent and secondment opportunities internally and have a new careers toolkit to help colleagues make a move into a role that is right for them.

Word from the top

"We look to every single colleague (myself and my executive team especially) to own our culture, live our values and make sure that people feel supported, valued and part of a community.   As a result of a positive employee experience, our colleagues feel more fulfilled and provide better outcomes for our customers, and that’s positive for our bottom line.
