Bright Horizons is the UK’s leading provider of early years care and education, with over 300 nurseries across the UK.

We care for more than 25,000 children each week and have over 350 corporate clients for whom we manage workplace nurseries and broader dependant care services.

We employ over 7,500 staff across our nurseries and support offices in the UK and we believe that our colleagues are the key to our success as a provider of exceptional care, education and family solutions.

What defines us

Our organisation was founded in the US in 1986, with the first sites opening in the UK in 2000 with a shared, clearly defined purpose:

Caring for others, including the children in our care, our colleagues, and members of our local communities, defines what we do and who we are.  


Our HEART principles underpin everything that we do. HEART stands for Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork. The principles were created by a cross functional team of colleagues in the early days of our organisation and they identify how each member of Bright Horizons contributes to the whole. They articulate our people practices in behavioral terms, in a way that provides each of us with a clear understanding of how we treat one another.

How we do things at Bright Horizons is just as important as what we do. HEART remains a core of our business, reflected in our HEARTfelt Thanks online platform  and the HEART Award at our annual Awards of Excellence events.

Recruiting and retaining outstanding Early Years practitioners continues to be a challenge facing all nurseries. Our recruitment process has been designed to enable us to identify not only candidates’ key competences and skills, but also to ensure that their attitude and culture match our own, enabling us to deliver on our purpose and our vision.

The characteristics we seek in new employees are linked to our HEART Principles – Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork – for us it is just as important ‘how’ you do things as it is ‘what’ you do. This is explored through our recruitment process, our approach being to hire for attitude as well as skill.

We continue to optimise the use of social media to attract talent, utilising our BH Careers Facebook channel and many of our colleagues, from Nursery Managers to members of our recruitment team sharing vacancies and inspirational stories on LinkedIn.
