What employees say

Having been working in sales and account management for 2 years previously, coming here was like a breath of fresh air. The level of support and encouragement I receive on a daily basis from my manager and team is amazing, and it’s given me the confidence I was previously lacking. I’ve made friends for life here who consistently motivate me to become the best version of myself, and not only do we work hard but we play hard too with regular team and business-wide social events (currently virtually of course!).

What defines us

We are best defined by our five values, otherwise known by their acronym SHARP:

  • Strive for Simplicity
  • be Humble
  • We are all Accountable
  • Deliver Results that wow
  • Choose Positivity

These came about collaboratively a few years ago, and, in turn, they define our culture.

What inspires us

Our most successful benefit is, what we call, Flexi-Friyay. As a reaction to homeworking, we realised that it was even more important to encourage a healthy work/life balance. So we introduced the opportunity for the team to take Friday afternoons off after having undertaken 45 minutes of overtime throughout the week. We also offer many other unique perks such as our Wellness Allowance (we financially contribute to a wellness programme of your choice), we offer flexi-time as default, and remote-first is default too, so you can work from anywhere!

As our SHARP values came about, so did the SHARP Awards. We support and encourage internal recognition by offering the award as part of our feedback culture. They are given to someone, or a whole team, when they have exhibited one of our values. This cascades into a Slack channel so that everyone can see!

Action highlights

We’re most proud of the collective action we have fostered in regards to larger social conversations such as Pride Month and the BLM movement, as well as mental health and being endometriosis-aware. We have internal networks who ensure our conversations stay active, and that the resources and educational materials are always up to date, and available for our team to explore.

We know how important mental health and wellbeing is for our team, and because of that, we have two dedicated Mental Health First Aiders who are always there for support. In addition, we provide all managers with training around wellness and mental health awareness.

Word from the top

Student Beans is a fantastic and exciting place to work. What is different to other workplaces is the culture that weaves its way through everything we do. When I first joined I was looking for the ‘rules’ about how to do my job and essentially how to ‘colour within the lines’. I quickly learned that the key to how successful we could be would be down to the support to innovate and iterate. Working in an environment where mistakes are part of the psychology of success has allowed me to develop more professionally than any other job I have ever done.
