Stocks of publicly traded companies on the annual list of Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for"® collectively beat the broader market by more than 300 percent over a seven-year span, according to a new study.

A portfolio of the publicly traded "100 Best" companies earned 176 percent over six years ending in 2004 compared with the Russell 3000's 42 percent return and the S&P 500's 39 percent gain in that time. The Russell 3000 represents nearly all of the U.S. market.
